Costco says ‘No’ to Christmas…literally
Costco has 520 stores nationwide. But you will not find “Christmas” in a single store.
That’s because Costco says it will not use the term “Christmas” on its website or in its stores. Instead, Costco is telling customers it purposely chooses to use the generic “holiday” verbiage. You know, they stock holiday gifts, not Christmas gifts.
Last week, a customer wrote to Costco and asked this direct question – “Does Costco use the word ‘Christmas’ in your store advertising or on any signs anywhere in your stores during the Christmas season? That’s a pretty simple question, yes or no.”
Kory Rosacrans, staff manager for Costco replied, “I guess the answer would be No.”
Rosacrans said, “Costco does not advertise on television, on radio or in print like other retailers. We only advertise by mailings and e-mail messages sent directly to our members who have paid for the privilege of shopping with us.”
Costco wants you to do your “Christmas” shopping with them, while refusing to recognize that Christmas even exists.
Take Action!
Send your e-mail to Costco. Let Costco know that you will exercise “your privilege” of shopping only at stores that recognize Christmas. Remind Costco that their competitors are vying for your business too, and you will shop accordingly.
Thank you for caring enough to get involved. If you feel our efforts are worthy of support, would you consider making a small tax-deductible contribution to help us continue?
Sincerely,

Dear President Sinegal:
I was shocked by your company’s response to a customer, saying Costco refuses to use the term “Christmas” in store advertising and promotions. I am shopping only at stores that do not ban Christmas in their stores and promotions.
Please count me as one who will NOT be shopping at Costco this “Christmas” season. And, I’m telling my friends about your company’s decision.
Signed,
Rev. Wright

Give it a few more years then we wont have Christmas anymore! I love Christmas. What are we going to do in December have Political Correctness day?
Thanks folks…I went to the Costco website to by a NATIVITY set…you know, that thing that celebrates the birth of JESUS…the fellow who put the “Christ” in Christmas, and which was available yesterday at the Costco website. Today it’s not there anymore. Maybe it was sold out to illustrate how “unChristian” Costo was…after all…it’s more important to put “Christmas” in advertising than it is to actually sell something that commemorates Christ. Sort of like polar opposite of all these good “Christians” who advertise their faith all over their cars, and internet blogs, but their actions are far from Christ-like.
Was the fact that costco was selling a nativity set yesterday, but it’s not available today…even though the picture of the set is clearly on the “indoor decorations” page of their website- and which pretty clearly indicates that they were recogizing “Christ” in Christmas and which goes against the slant of this website…was that the reason you didn’t approve my post?
Happy Hanukkah
Why can’t everyone play nicely in the sandbox?
It is totally ridiculous to remove the celebration of Christmas just as it would be equally ridiculous to remove other religious holidays.
Expand everyone’s knowledge on religion; do not let selfishness drive us to stupidity. Expand one mind so that we can all learn to live together.
Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa and Happy Hanukkah
As a fundamentalist Christian, I do not keep Xmas because of its pagan origins. Christ wasn’t even born on December 25!
Meaning of Christ-Mass–Death of Christ.
Now that being said…Xmas is not the only December holiday. There’s Chanukah and I’m probably forgetting a couple of others.
And if you’re married & wear a wedding ring, shame on you. Wedding rings are of pagan origin. After all if you want to avoid anything with a pagan root, be consistent!
“Holidays” is inclusive of New Year’s, a day we all celebrate. Why the war on New Year’s?
Please, American Family Association, you are making conservatives (like myself) look rather silly. There are over 2100 references to Christmas on the Costco webpage. The company doesn’t even have “sales,” so why would they have a “Christmas sale?”
I’ve never heard of ONE employee being told not to say “Merry Christmas,” while I’ve heard several utter those words. Considering our president and congress, don’t conservatives have bigger fish to fry? This is just making conservative christians look like babies. Besides, why should we not be wishing a “Happy Chanukah?”
Hey Alexandra, because you’re so smart tell us when Christ was born exactly? I’ve heard the argument, the Bible suggests Christ was born during the spring time. Is not the meaning of Christmas to celebrate the birth of Christ? Does it really matter if we don’t know the exact day? You certainly don’t know the precise day, nor does anyone else for that matter.
I’m tried of hearing from complacent Christians, you do yourself and every other Christian a great disservice.
