Obama Planning U.S. Trials for Guantanamo Detainees
President-elect Barack Obama’s advisers are quietly crafting a proposal to ship dozens, if not hundreds, of imprisoned terrorism suspects to the United States to face criminal trials, a plan that would make good on his promise to close the Guantanamo Bay prison but could require creation of a controversial new system of justice.
During his campaign, Obama described Guantanamo as a “sad chapter in American history” and has said generally that the U.S. legal system is equipped to handle the detainees. But he has offered few details on what he planned to do once the facility is closed.
Under plans being put together in Obama’s camp, some detainees would be released and many others would be prosecuted in U.S. criminal courts.

On the other hand, I wonder if rather than just getting vitriolic at this point, it might not be more productive to organize and oppose Obama by letting his allies in congress know we won’t tolerate BS. They’ve got a pretty big majority and they could easily get confident about trying to push through whatever they wanted. Think about that. It’s best to be prepared to write some letters and bring pressure on these guys. In the end, if they are targeted by voters they will think twice about pulling fast moves.

We’re NOT safe. Certainly no safer than we were BEFORE we got hit. And things have NOT gone back to normal. Technically speaking (and I’m actually qualified) the 2001 attacks were a military success. They hit two major (accepted) military targets and the worst thing about it is that they used civillians to do it. Again, time to stop crying over that. It’s done.
HOWEVER, look at what’s happened in the interim. Most Americans, including every anti-Obamite on this site, DO NOT trust their government. We’ve be going down THAT road since Johnson’s administration. It’s now gotten worse.
Anyone here know what got America out of the Great Depression? It wasn’t the New Deal, though the people impacted by the TVA got one hell of a leg up. No, not FDR’s New Deal, that was a failure. It was the Second World War.
We’re now in a war on TWO fronts, which hasn’t happened since WWII, and our economy is TANKING. Wars generally bring financial stability after a short period of re-adjustment and following the stability, growth. The stability USUALLY happens following the initiation of hostilities yet, in this case, we’re going down the tube. First housing, then everything associated with that, now it’s stretched to freaking Starbucks.
Economic policy for the last eight years has been a shambles. Bailouts for banks (which Obama is continuing for some unknown stupid reason) were a mistake. Entering into Iraq on false pretenses (which everyone except for Cheney ultimately admitted to) was a mistake and probably a criminal act. Wasting billions of taxpayer dollars on said war and NOT putting full focus behind actually ending the threat to our populace and economy was a mistake and probably a violation of a certain now-retired politician’s oath of office.

I’m a US Marine. There’s a military philosophy that every warfighter knows when it comes to stuff like this. We have to be on watch 24-7-365. THEY, however, can be out to lunch most of the year and only need to get lucky ONCE. We have to be lucky ALL THE TIME. That’s impossible. We are no more secure now than before but now we have more people that would like to hurt us.

Bailouts for ANY company is a mistake. If a BUSINESS FAILS then it FAILS. But you also have to factor in all of the liberal & special interest groups putting demants and restrains on products. Take the auto industry. They’re trying to tell us WHAT specs our cars have to be in order to be eco-friendly, but that’s all a load of crap. NOT everyone wants to drive a high mileage little eco car. I think know the reason why people hate Bush. Bush was an unlucky president. He litterally inherited the recession from the previous administration. Because the recession only became apparant AFTER Clinton left, the Liberals started blaming Bush for what happened because he just happened to be the President at the time. Another thing is that they took Bush’s protection from terrorism for granted. He spent a lot of time protecting us from terrorism, and we just took it for granted, and we started blaming things he couldn’t do because he was preoccupied with protecting us. New Orleans was a tragedy, and Bush should’ve spared some people to help out, but seriously, look at Texas when Hurricane Ives hit! The people of New Orleans, sadly, just sat there and waited for the government to help. They were used to a big (LIBERAL) government, and when government wasn’t there to help, they had no clue what to do. Texas, on the other hand, got up and started rebuilding. So, Texas ended up rebuilding themselves, while New Orleans is still not completely rebuilt. I respect Bush a lot because he did what was right, not what was popular. Sure, he made many mistakes, but overall, he’s a great guy and a pretty good President. While not one of the best, but he definantly isn’t the worst. However, because of his move to go against what was popular and the economic recession, his popularity is in shambles, so I understand why Liberals would hate on Bush, but I seriously think that the reasons aren’t very good.
Obama, on the other hand, does whatever he can to be popular and recieve approval ratings. In fact, the media love him a lot (Seriously, the media was more interested in Palin’s wardrobe and “Joe the plumber” than Bill Ayers and Rev. Wright). Had it not been for the Web, I wouldn’t know any of those things. He has done a lot of things that make me very nervous. For instance, he’s closing Gitmo, which is the equivalent of closing down a facility full of murderers and sending them back onto the streets. The people will be sent back to the Middle East, and resume terrorism all because American Liberals can’t stomach torturing. That’s one thing that I don’t get about Obama. When a terrorist captures an American soldier, what does he do? HE TORTURES THE SOLDIER! What does Obama want to do? Let the terrorist get a free trial, and even send some back home, and then try to negotiate peace. Sure, negotiating peace is a noble thing, but it’s really useless against someone who dreads you for being born. Terrorists don’t give a crap about Human Rights. We need to torture them back to get some revenge for our fellow American soldiers who got tortured and then killed by terrorists. One more thing, he supports abortions. Killing something that has potential to be a human baby seems fine with him, but torturing terrorists isn’t (because the fetus isn’t “technically” alive). Still, if you wanna talk about morals, then you shouldn’t support abortion and not support torturing mass murderers at the same time.
Obama does what’s popular. Bush does what he believes is right. Does that mean Bush is a bad president? NO! In fact, I have more respect for Bush because of that. President Bush, in my opinion, always did what he thought was in the best interest of this country to keep it/us safe from another 9/11…he did try to warn the congress of the impending financial melt down…that call to arms went unheard…

I think know the reason why people hate Bush. Bush was an unlucky president. He litterally inherited the recession from the previous administration. Because the recession only became apparant AFTER Clinton left, the Liberals started blaming Bush for what happened because he just happened to be the President at the time. (Clinton created over 3 million new jobs, and the government had a 500 million dollar surplus)
He spent a lot of time protecting us from terrorism, and we just took it for granted, and we started blaming things he couldn’t do because he was preoccupied with protecting us.(If you call protection having American rights of the constitution stripped away from us ala the wire-tapping and ability to us US armed forces against it’s own citizens……..all Bush documents recently released……you can keep your protection)
